Polki vs Jadau: What's the Difference?

Polki and Jadau are often mentioned in the same breath, and for good reason — both trace back to royal Rajasthani and Mughal courts, and both remain staples of Indian bridal jewellery today. But they aren’t the same thing.

What is Polki?

Polki refers to uncut, natural diamonds set in gold. Unlike faceted diamonds, Polki stones are left in their raw, table-cut form, which gives them a soft, antique glow rather than a sharp, modern sparkle.

What is Jadau?

Jadau is a setting technique, not a stone. It’s the traditional method of embedding stones — often Polki diamonds, but also emeralds, rubies, and pearls — directly into a gold base using pure gold foil, without any adhesive or claws.

Which should you choose?

• Choose Polki if you want the classic uncut-diamond look as the focus.
• Choose Jadau if you want a richer, more layered piece combining multiple stone colours in one setting.
