Can I Choose a Certified Diamond in Surat and Design My Own Ring?
2 November 2026
Yes. At Vaishnavi Jewels in Parle Point, Surat, you can choose a certified solitaire first and then have a ring made around it in the design you want. You check the stone’s IGI, EGL or TGL report and its laser-inscribed number before you decide, choose the setting, band and gold karat, and we make the ring in our own manufacturing unit, usually in 2 to 4 weeks. The finished gold mount is BIS HUID hallmarked.
Why choose the diamond first?
For an engagement ring or a milestone ring, the solitaire is the heart of the piece. Choosing it first means you decide on the things that matter most, such as shape, carat weight, colour, clarity and cut, with the report in your hand, and only then design the ring to show that stone at its best. It also means the setting is made to fit your exact stone, not adjusted afterwards.
What are the steps?
Here is how a custom solitaire ring comes together with us:
- Tell us what you are looking for. Share the shape, approximate size and the look you have in mind on WhatsApp or at the showroom. We keep suitable stones ready for your visit.
- See the stones with their reports. Every solitaire comes with its own grading report from IGI, EGL or TGL, which states its quality and its origin, natural or lab-grown.
- Check the laser inscription. Under a 10x loupe, read the report number inscribed on the girdle and match it to the report. You can also check the number on the laboratory’s website.
- Choose the design. Pick the setting style (prongs, bezel, halo or side stones), the band width and profile, and the gold: yellow, white or rose, in the karat you prefer.
- Approve the design. We confirm the design, the finger size and the timeline with you before work begins.
- We make the ring. The mount is made in our own manufacturing unit and your solitaire is set.
- Collect and check. On collection, check the inscription again under the loupe, see the BIS HUID on the band, and verify it in the BIS Care app. The report number and stone details are on your invoice.
Which settings suit a solitaire?
- Four or six prongs: show the most of the diamond and let in the most light; six prongs hold the stone a little more securely.
- Bezel: a metal rim around the stone; very secure for daily wear and less likely to catch on clothes.
- Halo: a ring of small diamonds around the solitaire, which makes the centre look larger.
- Side stones or a pavé band: small diamonds along the band for extra detail.
For daily wear, a lower setting is more comfortable. Elongated shapes such as oval and pear make fingers look longer, and a slimmer band suits smaller hands. Our guide on questions to ask before buying a solitaire ring covers what to ask at each step.
Can I still see the inscription after the stone is set?
Usually, yes, because in most prong settings the girdle stays visible between the prongs. With a bezel or a very low setting, part of the girdle may be covered. That is why we suggest you read and match the inscription before the stone is set, and we note the report number on your invoice so the record stays with you.
What papers will I receive?
- The grading report for the solitaire from IGI, EGL or TGL.
- The BIS HUID hallmark on the gold mount, which you can check in the BIS Care app.
- An itemised invoice with the report number, the stone details and the gold weight and purity.
- If the band has small diamonds, these are described with their total weight, number of pieces and quality.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a custom solitaire ring take?
Usually 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the design. We confirm the timeline once the design and finger size are final.
How do I verify the report number on my diamond?
Read the number laser-inscribed on the girdle under a loupe, enter it on the laboratory’s website, and check that the details match your report. We do this with you at the counter.
Can the ring be resized later?
Yes. Resizing is charged on actuals. Rings with diamonds set all the way around the band can be harder to resize, so share the correct finger size when you order.
